Founded in 1196, established in a beautiful, wooded setting, the priory was a station for the Durham Cathedral and then operated as a vacation sanctuary for Durham\u2019s monks till its overthrow in 1538.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/aied2022.webspace.durham.ac.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/269\/2022\/05\/Picture13.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-392\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>More information is available at: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.english-heritage.org.uk\/visit\/places\/finchale-priory\/\">https:\/\/www.english-heritage.org.uk\/visit\/places\/finchale-priory\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Locomotion at Shildon<\/strong> \u2014the largest railway museum in the world, home to over 300 years of history. Our next stop will be Durham. Durham has been a place of pilgrimage for centuries. Durham\u2019s city is full of character with its cobbled streets, charming g cafes and independent shops.
